Homemade Teepee $10

I’ve had a lot of people ask for a teepee tutorial so I say give the people what they want. I pinterested for days trying to figure out what I wanted and how to make it happen but ended up making up my own and after a few mistakes it turned out! As you can see mine's a little loose because I wanted it to fit in between the couches so I couldn't pull the poles out quite as far as they should be.

Materials:

1.5 twin bed sheets (I bought mine from target clearance for $5)
5 1x2s 6 feet long ($.98 lowes)

Here’s how mine measures:

So if those measurements will fit your children and your space then you can make your teepee by following these instructions and measurements:

Cut 4 triangular panels from your fabric that measure 58 in long, 30 in (bottom), 3.5 in (top).
(if you don’t want a door like this one than cut an extra panel using these measurements and just cut a slit about 35 inches from the bottom for an opening)

Cut 1 panel 25in long, 12 in wide (bottom), 3 in wide (top)
If you’re using the hem from the sheets then take off 1/2in in length measurements where the hem is used. These measurements are for 1/2 in seam allowance.

3.   Set up for teepee frame using the 1x2s, shaped in a pentagon, use twine or rope, yarn,
etc to wrap around the area that they intersect about 14 inches from the top

4.   Pin your panels together just as you will sew them and place over the frame to make
sure everything lines up nicely and make any needed adjustments

5.   Sew your panels together, hem the top and bottom with a 1/2 in seam.

6.   Make a little pocket along the bottom edge for the poles but folding a 2.5 in seam. This
might get a little confusing but you are basically sewing a thick seam with un-sewn gaps
where the poles can fit. So as you start sewing your thick seam, leave a 3 in space that
you skip over wherever the poles are, so everywhere you have a vertical seam. This way
your poles will tuck into the fabric and hold the bottom in place.

7.   Place your fabric over your frame and cross your fingers that all is well! Add any
embellishments (like cross stitching or feathers ) and let your little ones go wild.
